Kronverk Cinema by Robert Majkut Design
06:33 |
Kronverk Cinema is a leading cinema network on the Russian market. It encompasses 15 cinema theaters in major cities in Russia (including 8 in St. Petersburg) and 1 in Ukraine. Kronverk, strengthening its market position and ensuring its good reputation among viewers, consistently implements its strategy of development through improvement of the quality of services and introduction of global standards. This was the reason why the brand turned to Robert Majkut Design studio – with a task to create a new standard model for cinema facilities that could be implemented in the network cinemas. The new standard was to elevate the culture of multiplex cinemas to a very high level, previously unknown in Russia.
The concept developed by Robert Majkut Design was realized in one of the cinemas in Moscow. It allows to be repeated both in new and existing cinemas as a coherent and consistent solution of the spatial organization and visual identification. As a whole, the concept developed by Robert Majkut Design is the brand’s distinctive market differentiator. Recognizable elements of Kronverk’s brand identity – the distinctive logo and colors – were the starting point for this project.
The concept is realized as a smooth development of the logotype’s shapes and its color balance. All spatial geometric forms present in this project are the consequence of a certain order of lines, which comes from the trademark – most of all from the distinctive symbol of crown. Derivation of these lines, their multiplication and crossing has created a flexible array of forms, which can be modified into various modules. In this way for each wall or ceiling there is a common matrix, one can find their counterpart in the elements of the logo.

EarthBaked :: Biodegradable Footwear
20:37 |
EarthBaked is a new brand promoting a “Return to Sender” design philosphy. What does this mean? Our products are made from natural materials that give back the the earth at the end of their life-cycle. Our first product is the +/-90 shoe on Kickstarter right now! The +/-90 shoe is intended to be non-durable, minimal, and limited use. But don’t we want a shoe that lasts forever? Not when it’s made with 100% wool and rubber.
Wool is biodegradable, moisture wicking, anti-microbial, water repellent and breathable. It also works as a natural fertilizer and releases sulfur and nitrogen back into the soil as it decomposes. Amazing huh!
The +/-90 shoe is also great because it’s light weight. I carry it with me on backpacking trips to wear at camp after hiking all day. It’s a great emergency shoe and I also carry it in my back pack while my cycling shoes are on for the morning commute to work.
The +/-90 shoe is truly an option for responsible consumption, a passion for good design, and a love for natural materials on loan from their creator.
Please check out the project on Kickstarter and post it to Facebook, Twitter, and anywhere else you influence may reach. Thanks!
Interesting Old Portraits of People Posing With Their Vintage Cameras
20:36 |
The quality and portability of cameras these days would be quite astonishing to photographers from back in the earlier days of photography — the days in which you needed both hands and a strong back to work as a photojournalist. Here, an interesting collection of old photographs of people posing with their vintage cameras.
- In 1939, when star college quarterback Davy O’Brien visited Washington to receive a prestigious award, he paid a visit to Presidential Secretary Marvin H. McIntyre at the White House. To demonstrate his passing technique to McIntyre, O’Brien grabbed a camera from a news photographer nearby and pretended to use it as a football.

06:00 |
New York based Tihany Design is regarded today as the world’s preeminent hospitality designer. They have an extensive portfolio, having worked on whole hotels, restaurants, bars, special guest rooms and suites, spa and fitness areas, meeting rooms, ballrooms, shops, airports, exhibits and even cruise ships. But they encompass other aspects of design like products, exhibitions, and graphics. Each of their grand projects becomes an icon.
They are focused on the contemporary luxury sector, but always maintaining a close concern with traditional values. Each of their projects is entirely unique, and made in a way to fit with the owner’s cultural values and preferences. Especially, when working on a restaurant, great care is given to adapt the interiors to the kind of food being served and which brand of hospitality the chefs want to History is made and celebrated through the materials employed in the interiors, the kind of furnishings and overall ambiance emanated. A big effort is given to the “art” of moving a person through a space by Tihany, as they see it as a key aspect of any hospitality project.
More than 30 years of experience come in handy when you have to deal with recreating the iconic properties of historical places, such as the Oberoi in New Delhi and the Beverly hills Hotel. It takes firstly great research skimming through every bit of information available on the place. There is also a considerable amount of resistance against changing these kinds of places, some people want to go back to the old ways, but you find, sometimes, that these just don’t work anymore.
